The IC 417 nebula surrounds and trails to the east of Open Cluster Stock 8, which is the dense group of stars to the east (left) of the bright 5.1 magnitude star near the center (Phi Aurigae, 24 Aur). The N-S 'fan' from the bright star is caused by the inexpensive Hoya filter |
