Notes:

Another object imaged in this "winter's" highly variable conditions. High clouds (still no rain; 1 inch since1 July), and winds (poor seeing generally in the wind), and a waxing moon (68-77%) within 30-40 degrees the last two days.

The IC 417 nebula surrounds, and trails to the east (left) of open cluster Stock 8, which is the dense group of stars to the east (left) of the bright 5.1 magnitude star near the center (Phi Aurigae, 24 Aur, 5.1 mag). The N-S 'fan' from the bright star is caused by the Lumicon filter. See the 8" version.

According to "Star Clusters", by Brent Archinal and Steven Hynes, the size of open cluster Stock 8 is 15 arc minutes.
