This cluster is embedded in Barnard's Loop, which is the faint nebulosity in the field. This image replaces a 90 minute red-filtered Track & Accumulate image from 02/23/2006. Note that NGC 2112 forms an equilateral triangle with M 78 and LDN 1622, centered on Bernard's Loop. See this color image by Rogelio Bernal Andreo of this area.

According to "Star Clusters", by Brent Archinal and Steven Hynes, the size of this open cluster is 18 arc minutes.

V = 8.4;  Size 11

17.5": three dozen stars over unresolved haze, roughly 10' diameter.  The 
brightest star (mag 10) is at NW edge.  Includes a string of five mag 12-13 
stars on the N side but most stars are very faint.  This cluster is fairly rich 
but not dense.  Barnard's Loop passes just west of the cluster heading south and 
NE where it is brightest!

8": 12 faint stars mag 12/13 in cluster.  Also includes one bright mag 10 star 
at NW edge.
