Notes:* I shot this small E1 galaxy field with hazy skies (fog late at night, burning off during the day - typical 'May grey'), and a lot of moon is the sky ... *My charting software (Megastar v5.0.13) lists the size of NGC 5557 as 3.6 x 3.2 arc minutes. Most other sources I checked agree more with the NGC / IC Project size of 2.1 x 1.9 arc minutes.

According to the CDS, the object near the core of NGC 5557 is a star.

The little galaxy pair 17 arc minutes off to the northwest (upper right) of NGC 5557 are NGC 5544 (Arp 199, 1.0'x1.0', 14.2 mag, Cl:(R)SB(rs)0/a) and NGC 5545 (1.3'x0.5'; 16.0 mag, Cl:SA(s)bc:).

17.5": bright, fairly small, small bright core dominates. A very faint star is
involved at SE side. The N5544/N5545 pair lies 16' NW and the thin edge-on
N5529 is 38' WSW.

8": fairly faint, bright core.

V = 13.4;  Size 0.9x0.9;  SB = 13.0

17.5": very elongated streak WSW-ENE, moderately large, uneven surface
brightness. This is a contact pair appearing as two brighter knots at the SW
end (actually N5544) and the NE end (N5545).

17.5": double system elongated WSW-ENE and attached to N5544 at the WSW end,
0.6' between centers. Appears larger than N5544. The two systems are separated
by just a small darker region of lower surface brightness but are not cleanly
resolved.
